O corpo e a estética da suspeita em Close, um filme de Lukas Dhont

Abstract

This paper is about a reading of the movie Close (2022), by Lukas Dhont, that aims to reflect on the aesthetics of suspicion – how it happens, how it structures itself and how it is socially legitimized – in relation to certain bodies. Depending on the specifics of the body, the suspicion becomes an undisputed truth – the body of a woman, a black person, an indigenous person, a LGBTQIAPN+ person, among others, when it is placed in a sphere of suspicion, it begins to suffer all the sanctions for the alleged “offense”. A man that does not perform the hegemonic masculinity – the one socially understood as “adequate” – is, many times, suspected to be homosexual, as it happens to the characters from the cinematic narrative Léo e Rémi. Certain bodies, these ones listed, in relation to the suspicion even if it is not real, not confirmed, are considered as such. The two characters in question operationalise in the fictional what many times transpires in the factual world.
