A enunciação do eu na auto-sociobiografia: uma leitura de Mudar: método (2021), de Édouard Louis

Abstract

Émile Benveniste's work elucidates the relevance of the subject in linguistic studies. His theory emphasizes the “I” as the subject who performs the act of enunciation in oposition to the “you”, to whom the “I” addresses itself, and to the “he”, the object of enunciation. Based on these operators, our objective is to demonstrate how the “I”, as the subject of enunciation, appropriates language when presenting its history in an auto-sociobiographical narrative. To achieve this objective, we conducted an analysis of excerpts from the work Change: Method (2021) by Édouard Louis. In this work, the author enunciates his process of social class change in an auto-sociobiography that considers the social aspects of class and sexual orientation as central to the narrative. We conclude by indicating that Émile Benveniste's theory of enunciation is productive for the analysis of literary texts. Besides, we highlight Louis’s enunciation as a unique and singular mode of the “I”’s appropriation of its history.
