Abstract

The study was based on observation directed at health work and the integration of teaching, health service and community during the development of work practice in a Teaching Assistance Unit linked to UFAL, in the preceptorship of the medicine course at FAMED at UFAL. We direct our interest towards investigating the contribution of Community health agent (CHA) in the training process of medical students, given the proximity of these professionals to the community and their role in mediating between technical and popular knowledge. Based on the question of what contributions CHA make to the training process of medical students, the research aims to analyze the actions developed by CHA in the training process, identify the actions developed between CHA and medical students and describe which their contributions to the students’ training process. The methodological path had an exploratory and descriptive nature, using a qualitative approach. The technique chosen was the conversation circle, carried out with nine CHA from a Teaching Unit. The analysis of the statements resulted in the definition of three categories: 1. Activities developed by the CHA for student training; 2. Feeling of appreciation, belonging and contribution to training; 3. Lack of integrated planning between teaching and health services with the participation of CHA. The study demonstrated its relevance and fulfilled its objectives, by presenting, even if briefly, the contributions of these professionals to the academic training of medical students, in addition to supporting the idealization of the intervention product.
