Abstract

Introduction: Multiprofessional health residencies (MRH) are based on the integration of knowledge and practices. In the hospital context, the prevention of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) stands out as a crucial element for safety in healthcare services. Aim: To assess residents' knowledge of HCAI prevention measures. Method: A descriptive case study with a qualitative approach. The paired instruction technique was used. Content analysis according to Malheiros guided the interpretation of the data. Results: The categories identified were: one - Infection prevention through the skills and competencies developed; two - Challenges in developing infection prevention and control actions; three - Potentialities in infection prevention. In category one, some residents demonstrated knowledge and prevention practices, recognizing the importance of hygiene. In category two, situations of insecurity with different prevention measures were reported. Category three showed care with safe prevention practices. Conclusion: The results show that residents are aware of HCAI control, but their knowledge is limited. Health education is fundamental to understanding the topic. This study provides valuable information for improving the education process for HCAI prevention.
