Abstract
The disaster, which began in 2018, caused serious structural, economic, environmental, and social damage, affecting approximately 60,000 people and causing the evacuation of five neighborhoods. This article aims to present the communication tools developed by the projects “Quali-Quantitative Analysis of Incidents Caused by the Braskem Mining Company in Maceió - AL” and “Reports of a Tragedy” that served to expand the dissemination of the topic to society. Highlights include the digital repository “Tragedy in Maceió”, the YouTube channel “Reports of a Tragedy”, the educational booklet “Exploring the Impacts of Mining in Maceió”, as well as a documentary and an educational game still under development. The results indicate that such initiatives contributed to increasing public awareness, combating misinformation, and fostering a critical understanding of the disaster. Finally, the study highlights the relevance of continuing to use these tools and suggests new research to evaluate their effectiveness in similar contexts
